Summer 2022

Our time in America was very refreshing. It was a full and busy month, but still a much-needed break. We were able to see so many people who are special to us, even if just for a quick hug or long coffee. Thank you to all who took time to encourage us while we were there. And to our family who gave us such a good time that Nora asked, “Can we go back tomorrow?”

We had the chance to visit with our strategic ministry partner Redeemer Bible Church in Greenwood, IN and a few other churches. Paige was able to attend The Gospel Coalition’s Women’s Conference in Indianapolis. We rode water slides at the Great Wolf Lodge and ate our fill of Mexican food and Chick-fil-A sauce (in separate meals). I also don’t regret any one of the month’s iced coffee purchases.

CHURCH

Jonas finished a sermon series through First John and a four-week topical series on “What is the Church.” In our membership meetings, we are slowly walking toward establishing biblical leadership. We addressed questions like: “Is a church without elders a healthy church? Titus 1,5?” “Is authority bad?” “What church offices are mentioned in the Bible?”

While we were away, over 40 people from church went to a family retreat center for a few days. There is currently a summer men’s book club reading Don Whitney’s Family Worship. It has already been an encouragement to the men going.

A sister church of ours will be put on a camp spanning over the last weeks of July. A few members of our church, including Paige, will be serving at the camp. We pray it will be a fruitful and impact time.

Members of our church have continued to care well for the Ukrainians in our midst. They have helped them begin to integrate into the church and into Germany.

We look forward to hosting a team of six from Redeemer Bible Church at the end of July. We hope the time will be mutually encouraging as both share and learn from one another. Luke, one of Redeemer’s interns, will be preaching on Sunday as Jonas translates.

FAMILY

We visited America four weeks after moving into our house. It was nice to walk in after being away and feeling like it is already home-ish here. This space to live is truly a gift, and we are thankful to God for it.

For Paige, getting to put German speaking and learning on the backburner, and especially getting to sing and be in English-speaking churches, was most refreshing. But I know I can glorify God in learning German, even if it is rarely fun for me. Please pray I will be discipled and joyful in my language learning.

Miss Fenely Kay will turn two next month. That little left check dimple has a slew of people wrapped around her finger.

Lord willing, Nora will begin pre-school (Kindergarten) in August. We pray she will be a little light as she takes her first step out of the nest.

PRAYER

  • We would rely on God as our refuge and strength (Psalm 46)

  • That God would raise up more godly leaders for the church

  • Our adjustment back to Germany. Everyone is cranky and jetlagged :)

Much love,

Jonas, Paige, Nora and Fenley
